1and1 - s290889550.onlinehome.us

On this page you will find the monitoring results and other details regarding a 1and1 Linux shared hosting account that I maintained with them between July 2009 and May 2011, specifically a "1&1 Home" package. As you can see, I was unable to simply host a subdomain of hostpeek.com there because, due to the way they have setup their systems, I would be forced to point the main domain to their servers, which I don't want to do. I had to just use the subdomain that they provided with the account. No biggie, but I can't say I understand their reasoning for this, in my opinion, needless limitation. So, keep in mind that if you only want to host a subdomain with them and manage your DNS remotely, they're not the host for you.

Another important limitation in their shared hosting is the size of your databases: MySQL must be less than 100MB, MSSQL (in case you go for their Windows hosting) must be less than 200MB. I'm sure it helps limit the extent of problems that can occur in their shared hosting environment, but it also limits the size of the sites you can host there. On a more positive note, they're definitely one of the biggest hosting companies around and they argue that they have the largest number of customers in the industry. They run some other brands too, such as Fasthosts.co.uk.
